Trafficking in Persons Report 2010

Tenth Trafficking in Persons Report is already available. The report, issued by the U.S. Department of State, estimates the number of children and adults being forced into labour or prostitution all around the world on 12,3 million. The report is the most comprehensive and up-to-date international document referring to human trafficking. It covers 177 countries and different aspects of the phenomenon. The aim of the report is to raise awareness of the worldwide existence of human trafficking and to initiate actions that will lead to its elimination.

End Child Poverty Now!

In 2010 Campaign to End Child Poverty Eurochild is calling European political leaders to take every possible measure to fight the problem. 1 out of 5 children in Europe is living at the risk of poverty. As poverty is often passed on from generation to generation, the best route to break the poverty cycle is tackling poverty already early in childhood.

Campaign against corporal punishement in Ukraine

In the period of October - November 2009 Child Well-Being Fund Ukraine conducted the informational campaign "The pain from strapping has passed. But it remains between us" in Kiev city. This campaign was directed to parents who use physical punishments as a method of child upbringing. According to the results of the research made by Child Well-Being Fund in July 2009 near one third of respondents in Ukraine believe that physical punishment of children is not only acceptably but necessary. The idea of the campaign is to inform parents that physical punishment is a physical abuse. It is almost always accompanied with verbal offence and mental trauma and it makes huge harm to physical and mental health of a child.

Bad Touch campaign in Poland

On 13 May 2010 second edition of the social awareness and educational campaign against sexual abuse of children was inaugurated in Poland. The "Bad Touch" campaign is run by the Nobody's Children Foundation and Children Rights Ombudsman. First edition of the campaign in 2002 made many people realize how serious and not at all uncommon is the problem of sexual abuse of children, yet still a lot remains to be done to tackle it. The slogan of the campaign - "Children hurt by the bad touch want to be invisible" - reflect the organizers idea of reaching to children who are not able to cope or ask for help themselves.

You are a witness, you have rights

The leaflet "You are a witness, you have rights" have been recently issued by the Nobody's Children Foundation in the frame of third stage of Polish raising awareness campaign "Child - Witness with Special Needs". It is directed toward children and youth and explains basic rights of children participating in the criminal investigation according to article 185a and b of the Code of Penal Procedure. With the decision of the Ministry of Justice the leaflet will be distributed to all children called to witness, together with the information on the date and place of the interview.
Printing of the leaflet was possible thanks to European Commission funded programme „Prevention of and Fight against Crime".

Resolution of the Safe Belarus for Children conference

The first international conference «Development of child protection system: National and international experience» in the series of conferences «Safe Belarus for Children» was held in Minsk on 21-23, April, 2010. The conference was held at the initiative of INGO «Ponimanie» under the auspices of the U.S. Embassy Small Grants in Minsk and The Department of Humanitarian Affairs of the Office of the President of the Republic of Belarus.
More than 160 people took part in the conference.

Protection of unaccompanied minors in EU

On 6 May European Commission adopted Action Plan on Unaccompanied Minors with an aim to increase protection of minors without care entering EU, to ensure that a decision regarding each minor is taken by a competent authority as soon as possible and to create a common European approach regarding this issue.
Minors arrive to EU for a number of different reasons, for example to escape wars, poverty or discrimination. Some are victims of trafficking. According to Eurostat in 2009 10 960 unaccompanied minors applied for refugee status in 22 Member States, that is 13% more compared to 2008.

Problem of Child Abuse in Central and Eastern Europe in 2005 - 2009

The report Problem of Child Abuse: Attitudes and Experiences in Seven Countries of Central and Eastern Europe presents selected findings from a comparative research programme carried out in Bulgaria, Macedonia, Moldova, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland and Ukraine in 2009 and compares it with results from an analogous research from 2005 within the Childhood without Abuse - Toward a Better Child Protection System in Eastern Europe project. The project, coordinated by the Nobody's Children Foundation and financed by the OAK Foundation, was carried out in 2005 - 2009.

Protecting children online conference

On 6th May 2010 in Brussels the European NGO Alliance for Child Safety Online (eNACSO) will hold the conference "Protecting Children Online". The conference will mark the launch the eNACSO's call for action and recommendations to government's, industry and other relevant stakeholders. The conference will bring together children's rights organisations, senior EU policy-makers, industry representatives, and others to discuss issues including children and the new breed of location services, the EU challenges of protecting children online, children and the EU's Digital Agenda.

Children rights in the Czech Republic

Our Children Foundation implemented Children's Rights Support Project aiming to raise awareness about children's rights in primary schools (six-year-old to ten-year-old pupils) and on the rights and obligations of young people at secondary schools. As a part of the project a website for children www.detskaprava.cz was created, where children can learn about their rights through varius online games and quizzes. It contans necessary telephone numbers for children who need help or advice.
