An international analysis of young people ageing out of care

SOS Children’s Villages has published the report on the situation of young people ageing out of care in Europe and Central Asia. The report consists of 13 country reviews, from Albania, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, the Russian Federation, and Uzbekistan. 

The Council of Europe Campaign to stop sexual violence against children

The Council of Europe has launched a Europe-wide campaign to raise awareness about the growing sexual abuse and exploitation of minors in Europe.  The Council has worked with children, parents, teachers, social workers, and other experts to determine the type of information to be included in the campaign. The main goals of the campaign are to achieve further signature, ratification and implementation of the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse (Lanzarote Convention), to equip children, their families/carers and societies at large with knowledge and tools to prevent and report sexual violence against children, thereby raising awareness of its extent.

New Council of Europe guidelines on child-friendly justice

The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has adopted new guidelines on child-friendly justice aimed at European governments to improve children’s access to and treatment in all spheres of justice. Yet the guidelines seek to be more than a mere declaration of principles, and can be used more practically by steering the implementation of existing international treaties.

The new global progress report on the corporal punishment of children

The new global progress report for 2010 has been published jointly by the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children and Save the Children Sweden. Ending legalised violence against children: Global report 2010 reviews progress towards prohibition of corporal punishment of children throughout the world in the context of follow up to the UN Secretary General's Study on Violence against Children. It includes a major section on what it means to achieve law reform, and how to do it, as well as detailed information on law reform opportunities and active campaigns on the issue in all regions.

New CURE report: Child victims in the Union- Rights and Empowerment

The report of the CURE project including the information on the situation of the child victims in the EU member states was recently launched. In the report may be found topics concerning the right to information, procedures of interviewing children in the EU member states, support for a child-victim etc.

Child Recovery and Reintegration Network

The Child Recovery and Reintegration Network has been established. It supports and strengthens research, knowledge and learning surrounding the recovery and reintegration of children affected by sexual exploitation and trafficking globally. The Network facilitates the exchange of information between and amongst practitioners and researchers worldwide to enable the design, development and funding of high quality support programmes for children.


2010 Report on Child Abandonment

"2010 AiBi. Report on Child Abandonment: an Emergency – Life After Institutional Care” is the third report released from AiBi. after the first two issued in 2007 and 2008 on respectively child abandonment and the social protection systems of the out-of-family children in five E.U. countries. The report is one of the two concrete outputs (results) of the E.U. co-financed project named Life After Institutional Care which Ai.Bi. has carried out over the last two years in Italy, France, Romania, Bulgaria and Latvia to help identify effective social policies for the successful social inclusion of out-of-family youths.

The 20th World Congress of the IACAPAP, « Brain, Mind and Development » will take place in Paris, 21-25 July 2012. It will be devoted to exploration of the consequences entailed by the advances made by the neurosciences in understanding the functioning of the mind and in treating its disorders.

New report: Baltic Sea Region Information Management to Prevent Trafficking

The Expert Group for Cooperation on Children at risk, EGCC, within the Council of the Baltic Sea States in cooperation with Save the Children Denmark, Tartu Child Support Centre in Estonia and Caritas in Lithuania has issued the report on how information on children victims of trafficking or at risk of becoming victims of trafficking is managed in the CBSS countries.

IOM Campaign against Trafficking

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) presented the "Buy Responsibly" Campaign in Vienna on Friday, 15th October, to coincide with EU Anti-Trafficking Day proceedings. By urging consumers to change their behaviour and find out "What's behind the things we buy", the "Buy Responsibly" Campaign draws public attention to the vital role consumers can play in combating human trafficking.This campaign addresses a gap in global counter-trafficking efforts which have until now, mainly focused on prevention and post-rescue assistance in source countries with little work being done to tackle the equally critical demand side, fuelled by consumer purchases.
