6th Conference “Helping children – victims of crime”

On 26th and 27th October 2009 in Warsaw annual conference devoted to the issue of assistance to abused children and protection of children participating in legal procedures was organised by the Nobody's Children Foundation, Social Policy Department of Warsaw City Hall and Ministry of Justice. Being the most important and the largest of this kind of events in Poland the conference gathered more then 550 professionals working in the area of psychology, law, social services and non-governmental organizations supporting children.

First child-friendly interviewing room in Ukraine

On 27th May 2009 child-friendly interviewing room was opened by Child Well-Being Fund Ukraine in Kyiv. The creation of such room in Ukraine became possible as a result of cooperation of Child Well-Being Fund and Nobody's Children Foundation from Poland in the frame of "Childhood without Abuse - Toward a Better Child Protection System in Eastern Europe" project and with the financial support of Bread for the World (Germany).

Dzimba Safety Programme in Latvia

Dzimba Safety Programme is a new child-focused child abuse prevention initiative for young children, their parents and teachers run by the Center Against Abuse „Dardedze" in Riga. An unique character Dzimba have been developed to serve as a mediator between children and adults and to provide children with skills enabling to recognize dangerous situations, dangerous people, safe and unsafe touch, different types of secrets and to say „no".

Study on Violence against Girls

This publication was jointly developed by the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre and the Government of the Netherlands. It includes a background document prepared by the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre and report on the International Conference on Violence against the Girl Child held in The Hague on 9 - 10 March 2009.

Keeping Children and Young People Safe Online

Polish and German Safer Internet Centres are organizing the 3rd International Conference "Keeping Children and Young People Safe Online". The event will take place in Warsaw at the Marriott Hotel on September 29-30.

Eurochild 6th Annual Conference

The conference will take place in Cyprus, on 11th - 13th September 2009. This year the event will focus on better monitoring of child well-being in policy and practice. Child well-being is extremely difficult to measure, but there are more and more examples of good practices and significant results.

South Eastern Europe: Regional Child Trafficking Response Programme

Child trafficking continues to be a serious concern in South Eastern Europe, with high numbers of children trafficked for exploitative purposes. Despite increased attention and responses to the issue over the past years the capacity of governments to undertake effective measures to prevent trafficking and protect children who have suffered from being trafficked remain limited. The main obstacle are weak child protection systems, lack of financial and technical resources, limited understanding of factors that make children exposed to trafficking and failure to address the root causes and the structural dimension of the problem. Save the Children in Albania is contributing to fight against child trafficking in the region by conducting the Regional Child Trafficking Response Programme (CTRP).

Child as a Witness websites in Bulgaria

Social Activities and Practices Institute is operating two websites devoted to the problem of children participating in legal procedures. The websites contain useful information for professionals and caretakers as well as children - witness. They were created in the frame of different projects run by SAPI, focusing on introducing changes in Bulgarian legislation and practice that would improve the difficult situation of children taking part in legal procedures.

European Forum on Street Children

European Federation for Street Children is organizing a forum for professionals devoted to the phenomenon of migration of unaccompanied children as an increasing challenge to the EU. The event will take place on 24th - 25th September 2009 in Budapest, Danubius Hotel.

Polish Network against Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children

In June 2009 a group of Polish organizations providing assistance to abused children and children at risk joined ECPAT International Network as a new affiliate group. The cooperation was initiated and is coordinated by the Nobody's Children Foundation.
