SOS Helpline for Children and Youth in Macedonia

The SOS helpline for Children and Youth of the First Children’s Embassy in the World “Megjashi” is the first toll-free line for children and youth in the country, which continuously operates more than 14 years (since 1993).

 

 

The helpline operates from Monday to Friday, between 8 and 20.

Although Macedonia experiences the low infant mortality rate, disparities in access to health and education between rural and urban areas are obstacle towards achieving the low mortality rate of Western European countries.



June 12th -World Day Against Child Labour

The First Children’s Embassy in the World - Megjashi reminds that even Republic of Macedonia ratified the Convention against Child Labour 6 years ago, the condition is still more than alarming. Over 18.000 children are not included in the educational system, and at least 1.000 children spend their childhood on the streets, living under the open sky, without parental care or supervision.



Abuse of child labor in Macedonia

On the 13th of June The First Children's Embassy In The World warned that the abuse of child labor is at a high level in Macedonia. There are more than 18,000 children in Macedonia outside the education system and at least 1,000 spend their childhood in the streets without the care of their parents and without adult supervision.

The largest percentage of such children is from the Roma population. According to the latest data, 64 percent of the children in the streets are between the ages of 7 and 14.
