Good Parent – Good Start campaign in Poland

It is a beautiful moment for a family when a baby is born. But it is a difficult time, too. It brings a real upheaval in a daily routine, it involves a lot of stress related to the responsibility for the newborn human being, sleepless nights, the baby's crying, initial inability to recognize the child's needs. It all might put the parents' endurance and patience to a test. The Nobody's Children Foundation, through the Good Parent - Good Start programme, tries to support the parents so that they are well prepared to face this challenge and pass the test with an A!

One of its activities is an awareness raising and educational campaign Good Parent - Good Start which had its kick-off on 15 March.

Organizers, Partners and Ambassadors
The campaign has been prepared by the Nobody's Children Foundation in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Policy and Labour and Warsaw Town Hall, with financial support guaranteed by the Bre Bank Foundation.

TV and radio spots were prepared on a non-profit basis by the DDB Warsaw agency. The AMS agency offered free-of charge outdoor advertising surface in most of the largest cities in Poland.
Thanks to the involvement of many TV and radio stations, newspapers, magazines and Internet portals the message of the campaign can reach a vast group of people, and the Ambassadors of the campaign make sure that parents in different regions and places all over Poland are offered support and advice.

Objective
The campaign is addressed to parents of young children (between 0 and 3 years of age) and parents expecting a baby. It is aimed at making them aware that parenthood might sometimes be a difficult challenge. The mass media very often show relaxed, smiling parents and happy children and parents who experience difficulties in their role might feel ashamed that they do not live up to that image. They might bottle up their emotions, they might not know where to look for help and advice.

Therefore, parents should get support to know what enhances the sound and healthy development of their child, and what may harm them; to know how to deal with their own emotions in difficult and stressful situations so that they don't get out of hand; to be aware that when they are lost and don't know what to do any more, there is a number of institutions and organizations were they can seek help and support.

What do we do?
By educational activities, such as meetings, workshops, individual counselling and support groups, but also brochures, leaflets, TV and radio spots, we want to share our experience with all the parents who want to ensure the best possible start for their children. We also invite parents to visit the programme's website www.dobryrodzic.pl ("dobry rodzic" in Polish means "good parent") where parents may find many articles giving useful tips on how to take care of an infant and how to deal with stressful parenting situations. There is also information on a current workshop offer prepared for parents within the Good Parent - Good Start programme, as well as on initiatives undertaken by other organizations. Parents can also find a list of institutions and organizations from all over Poland that support parents. And much, much more!
