FACT Project in Moldova

The FACT (Fight Against Child Trafficking) Project has been implemented by Terre des hommes, in cooperation with Salvati Copiii Moldova since 2004. The objective of the project is to implement preventive measures and provide assistance at a local level.

Terre des hommes aims to reactivate and strengthen Local Committees for Protection of Child Rights, made up of local authorities, teachers, police and volunteers, and to train its members in identifying and protecting children at risk of parental neglect, abuse, exploitation and trafficking. Cooperation with the Committees allowed to organise summer holidays for children most at risk, raise local communities awareness of the danger of migration and conduct courses of psychosocial organized activities for village volunteers.

Priority targets of the project are children suffering from parental neglect, at risk of alcoholism or having been taken away from school. To better respond to children's needs and encourage their social reintegration, a network with NGOs and local or regional reception structures was set up. Moreover, repatriation of abandoned and exploited children from Moscow took place in the frame of the project.

 

Recent activities of the FACT Project in Moldova:

• Training of Child Protection Units members, to enable them establishing a dialog with parents in 18 rural communities. The initiative aimed to effectively promote child rights and prevent child abuse, parental neglect, exploitation and trafficking at local level.

• Celebrations of the international Day of Children for about 3500 children in Moldova, in partnership with the municipalities and regional authorities, civil society and public institutions.

• Participation in radio talk show "Together for the future", broadcast at Moldova national radio on 22nd of June 2008. The show explored the problems of child victims of trafficking and repatriation issues.
