Safer Internet Day 2009 celebrated in Poland

On 10 February 2009 Nobody's Children FoundationNASK, organizations implementing the European Union's Saferinternet.pl project, organized the Safer Internet Day in Poland.

To highlight the occasion, a press conference devoted to the safety of the youngest Web users was held at the Warsaw University Library, a campaign related to the problem of cyber violence was launched in the media, and local initiatives were undertaken nationwide to enhance the safety of children online.

The Safer Internet Day celebrations were held under the honorary patronage of Grzegorz Schetyna, deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs and Administration, Katarzyna Hall - Minister of National Education and Anna Streżyńska, President of the Office of Electronic Communications and Polish National Committee for UNESCO. The TP Group Foundation was the main partner of SID 2009.

The Safer Internet Day, established at the initiative of the European Commission in 2004 as part of the "Safer Internet" program, aims at initiating and promoting efforts intended to enhance the safety of children and youths dealing with Internet content.

This year's SID in Poland celebrations were focused on the problem of peer violence on the Web. Cyber violence prevention and promotion of the support offered by Helpline.org.pl (0 800 100 100) constitute the educational offer that is made available to local SID organizers. It is also the topic of a media campaign launched on the Safer Internet Day in several television stations. The leading slogan of the campaign, underlying positive entertainment values of the nternate, but also reminding of the threat it poses, is "Play on the Web - SAFELY".
