Polish alternative report to CRC

Recently alternative report to the Polish government's report on the implementation of the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Right of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography has been issued.
The report has been prepared by experts from the Nobody's Children Foundation and the Helsinki Foundation for Human Rights, in cooperation with other organizations. In contains comments and supplementary information on child trafficking, prostitution, and pornography, clarifying and complementing the government's report.

The government's report does not present research findings or statistics. These have been collected in the alternative report. In the process of consultations with major NGOs, several dozen recommendations for the government have been prepared on how to improve the system of combating child trafficking, prostitution, and pornography. The most important of them include the necessity to create an organ that will coordinate the work of various services and institutions. Such an organ would set priorities and long-term plans, and monitor their implementation. It is also necessary to conduct research and collect statistics helpful in assessing the scale of the problem and taking appropriate action, as well as to provide systemic training and broadly-understood education, both for adults and for children.

The report will be presented to the Committee on the Rights of the Child in June 2009.
