Supervision by an international expert in Macedonia

The supervision by international expert was conducted on the 1st of December 2006 by prof. dr. Veronika Ispanovic, child psychiatrist and psychotherapist, professor at the university of Belgrade and leading internationally recognized professional in this field in Serbia. On the Conference in York she was invited lecturer at the Developing Country Forum, the leader of working group working on designing protocols for children victims of abuse.

Topics that were elaborated during the workshop were concerning:

  • Emotional abuse
  • Helping children to express their feelings and thoughts about maltreatment during the therapeutic process
  • Helping children to develop effective mechanisms of coping with the trauma

Since the participants represented many disciplines (child psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, special educators, pediatricians), the issue of emotional abuse and its consequences on further child development has been profoundly discussed. Two psychologists, dr. Joanis Gaidazis and Brankica Dadasovic, presented a case of emotional abuse caused by the divorce, which raised a long discussion. The issue of coping and resiliency has been also discussed after the case presentation of dr. Kamka Paketchieva.

There were also several therapeutic techniques with their contextual application presented.
