Protect me- I am small campaign in Latvia

The campaign „Protect me - I am small" was carried out between 12th April and 31th May. On 12th of April the press conference to open the social campaign, as well as to present the findings of the report "Evaluation of Young Children Rights Protection System" was held. Minister of Health and Minister of Welfare agreed to take part in the press conference and give their comment about the findings of the research regarding the existing problems in young children rights protection system, as well as the campaign. The press conference was attended by leading TV stations, as well as news agencies, some newspapers and radio channel. Also the experts that shared their expertise during the elaboration of the research took part in the event. During the press conference the new web page for parents www.paligsvecakiem.lv was presented as well.
The campaign radio and TV spots are being broadcasted on nationl radio and TV, communication with society via mass media continues - given interviews to radio, television and magazin about campaign, positive upbringing of children, the new web page, etc. Informative materials elaborated in the scope of the project - report, brochure for parents, stickers, posters - were being distributed.
25 social workers from different regions of Latvia have been involved as agents of the campaign in the regions. In this way information about the message of the campaign was delivered to the mass media and thus to a wider public in the regions as well.
On 19th of April a cooperation contract was concluded with Maternity Care Center of Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital, 2000 copies of brochures for new parents were provided to be distributed to the parents that receive their baby in this hospital.
On 23rd of May campaign outcomes and materials were presented in a conference „Volunteers and other innovative approaches to improve situation of children in families" with 150 participants - professionals and volunteers working in child rights protection field all around Latvia.
On 5th of June the researcher Aivita Putnina and Dardedze`s representatives presented the results of the report "Evaluation of Young Children Rights Protection System" to the Social Security Subcommittee of the Social and Employment Matters Committee of the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia. The biggest discussions arose around the fact that the normative regulation foresees 6 home visits of a family doctor to every baby, but the reality shows that most of the families receive only 1-2 home visits, although the finances are being allocated for 6 visits. Parliamentarians promised to contact Ministry of Health to research this issue further. In the meeting representatives from Ministry of Welfare, Ministry of Health and from State Inspectorate of Child Rights Protection were invited by the Parliament to listen to their comments regarding the findings of the research done by Dardedze. At the same time Dardedze`s representatives also distributed the informative materials elaborated in the scope of the project - report, brochure for parents, stickers, posters, as well as informed participants about the web page www.paligsvecakiem.lv . Few hundred brochures for the new parents were also given to the maternity ward of the hospital, which has a regional significance.
On 6th of June the researcher Aivita Putnina and Dardedze`s representatives presented the results of the report "Evaluation of Young Children Rights Protection System" in a conference "Health care actualities in Valmiera`s hospital: new services and possibilities", which was attended by around 50 health care specialists, as well as other professionals (family doctors, nurses, doctor's assistants, social workers, orphan court representatives, school and kindergarten representatives). Dardedze`s representatives stressed the necessity of intersectoral cooperation to better prevent, notice and fight with violence against children. A family doctor from Limbazi, whose best practice example was described in the report, agreed to participate in the conference and share her experience, how helpful with violence prevention against children can be close cooperation between sectors - mainly health and social work, as well as education and police.
An omnibus research was carried out after the campaign regarding the visibility and necessity of the campaign. According to the results of the survey, 20% of Latvia's population had noticed the campaign „Esmu mazs - saudzē mani!" or heard about it
