Local supervisions in Latvia

The first local supervision was organized on the 4th of December 2006 for 15 social workers dealing with children and families. During this supervision, led by a social worker Laila Balode from "Centre Dardedze", the following problems and topics were discussed:
• Role and responsibility of social worker and other involved actors (custody court, psychologist, etc.).
• The necessity of correct and timely information for successful case management, diagnoses and treatment.
• Indications which shows that a child has suffered from abuse. Specific indications which characterize physical, sexual and emotional violence and neglect.
• Groups of aftereffects of trauma. How to use them during the diagnostic process.
• Child as a witness of abuse - how to work with a child and a his/ her family.
• Methods of work with an abusive parent and with a parent who isn't outrageous. Problems of cooperation between parents and institution where a child is going to take a treatment and support.

 

The second supervision took place on 11th of December 2006 and was led by psychologist Laura Lebedeva from "Centre Dardedze". The 15 care givers who participated in this supervision discussed the following issues:
• Role and responsibility of care givers in the frame of diagnoses and treatment.
• Indications which show that a child has suffered from abuse. Specific indications which characterize physical, sexual and emotional violence and neglect.
• Use of different behavioral and cognitive methods in dealing with abused children.
• Methods of disciplination of children who are going to stay in institution for rehabilitation.
• Support methods for abused children and families.
