World Congress III against the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents, Brazil

On 25th - 28th November 2008, following the 1996 Stockholm and 2001 Yokohama global forums, Brazil will host the World Congress III against the Sexual Exploitation of Children and Adolescents in Rio de Janeiro.


The conference is organised with a purpose of mobilising all countries to protect the rights of children to be free from sexual exploitation and abuse by:

  • Building on current achievements, examining new challenges and dimensions of sexual exploitation and setting more targeted strategies and measures to address them;
  • Examining best practices in different regions and identifying channels to facilitate better exchange of experiences;
  • Opening channels and securing greater international cooperation on key issues (including cross-border and inter-regional cooperation);
  • Catalysing a systemic and inter-sector approach to guarantee children and adolescents´ right to be protected from sexual exploitation;
  • Establishing time-bound goals to promote and monitor progress on the themes addressed by the Congress.


Key topics that will be addressed during the Congress include:

  • New Dimensions of Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children;
  • Legal Frameworks and Enforcement;
  • Integrated Inter-Sectoral Policies;
  • Role of the Private Sector and Corporate Social Responsibility;
  • Strategies for International Cooperation.

The event is jointly organised by the Government of Brazil, UNICEF, ECPAT International, and the NGO Group for the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
