Global Report 2008 on ending legalized violence against children

In October Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children and Save the Children Sweden published a Global Report 2008: Ending legalized violence against children.

 

 

According to the publication, in the last 12 months there has been rapid progress towards prohibiting corporal punishment in countries across the world and the total number of states achieving full prohibition of corporal punishment grew to 23, with Hungary, Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Croatia and Latvia from East European region. In addition, more states have made firm commitments to law reform, with 17 governments publicly committing themselves to prohibition and law reform under way in at least a further 7.

 

The report also mentions the Council of Europe's region-wide campaign to ban corporal punishment and promote positive parenting, as well as provides overview of national campaigns and includes a global table of states' progress towards full prohibition.
