For Our Children Foundation

For Our Children Foundation is a non-governmental organisation working in partnership with children, families, communities, as well as local and national authorities to protect the rights of the child in Bulgaria. The organisation develops best practices and lobbies for social policy changes in order to improve the situation of the most marginalized children.

Areas of work:

• Prevention of child abandonment and placement in institutions;
• Foster care; support for foster carers and adoptive parents;
• Returning children from institutions back to their families or back to family type environment;
• Integrative education for children with disabilities;
• Development of child oriented policies;
• Empowerment of vulnerable children to set up their own networks and associations and to take active part in the child welfare sphere.
• Improvement of the life of Bulgarian youth.

Current projects:

• "Under one roof" project

The main purpose of the project is to increase the child`s well-being and to protect his or her right to grow up in a family environment by means of developing and providing of a wide range of services such as a socially effective alternative of the accommodation in institutions.
The activities in the frame of the project are directed to the creation of a Complex of Social Services - Community of Montana, where services for children and families will be provided. CSS - Montana will develop activities in two main sections, centre of public support providing social services for children and family, and crisis centre with crisis accommodation and support, with a crisis helpline avaliable.

• Center for support for children in risk aged between 0 and 3 years

The project aims to develop community based social services for prevention of abandonment and for the return of children at risk in the family type care, as well as development of services for their families. The project complements with the priorities of the National Strategy for Child Protection and responds to the local needs identified in the Program for Child Protection in districts Vazrazhdane, Ilinden and Krasna polyana.

 

• Provision of services for children and families for prevention, deinstitualization and reintegration in municipality Rakovsky, Sadovo and Sopot

The project aims to develop social services for prevention and reintegration for children at risk and support for their families in Municipalities Rakovsky, Sadovo and Sopot; raise social awareness of the problems of abandonment and institutialisation; establishement of a model of support of local community centers for social services for children and families by Regional Resource Center.
