During 2006 there were two
trainings conducted in Macedonia. The main topics of both of the trainings were:
• Diagnostic procedures of CAN: Family Assessment and Assessment of the Child
• Principles and goals of treatment
• Working with the child on the issue of trauma and abuse
• Working with parents and caregivers
The trainings were organized for two groups of professionals:
During the first one, held on the 31st of October and 1st of December, trainees in clinical psychology and psychiatry were introduced into the diagnostic procedures of CAN. There were therapeutic approaches to working with abused children and their family presented, with the special emphasis on the therapeutic techniques of coping with anxiety and physical aggression of children. The participants were also discussing the ways of repairing and restoring child's self-esteem.
Within the second one, organized on the 21st and 22nd of December, after presenting the diagnostic procedures of CAN (especially these related to physical abuse and neglect), pediatricians and home visit nurses were introduced into the principles and goals of the treatment of children and into the support and assistance for parents and caregiver in the post-disclosure period.
The recommendations from both trainings were:
• The need of continuous work and supervision of cases on regular basis
• Creating network of collaboration between professionals in preventing and caring for victims of abuse
• Home visit for the victims of abuse and neglect organized by the home visit service
• Supervision of home visit nurses on supporting parenting skills
