On 29 October 2007 the
European Commission adopted the Decision 2007/689/EC recommending member states to reserve the number
116 111 for child helpline services on national levels. By adopting the Decision the European Commission recognized importance of the work child helplines provide to children in the European Union and the need to support them.
It is expected that EU Member States will ensure that from 29 February 2008 the competent National Regulatory Authority can assign this number to relevant child helpline organizations.
You can find more information on concrete steps to be taken by child helplines organizations interested in applying for this number on Child Helpline International website.
