On 7 August 2008 a public information campaign against child trafficking and forced begging was launched in Kosovo. The campaign, sponsored by the
OSCE Mission and implemented by
Terre des Hommes, aims to raise public awareness of the problem of children being exploited as beggars.
Giving money to children beggars on the streets destroys their future and encourages them to continue to beg, what puts them at risk of child trafficking. The campaign is supposed to discourage the people giving money to children on the streets and show alternative options of giving support through recognized services.
The campaign began with the press conference, and will continue till the end of August with leaflets, posters, TV spots, Radio Jingles and newspaper announcements.
