Child in the City Foundation, the
European Network of Child Friendly Cities and
UNICEF are organising the
5th Child in the City Conference. The conference will take place on 27th - 29th October 2010 in Florence (Italy) with fully support of UNICEF and Istituto degli Innocenti, the city, region and province of Florence. Child in the City aims at encouraging cities all over Europe to create a child friendly public space. What started as a small event in 2002, has in ten years time grown into an inspiring European movement to promote the local implementation of the Convention of the Rights of the Child. By exchanging their experiences, cities themselves have been providing the energy for this movement.
The fifth conference of Child in the City will further build on the ideas of the former events with themes like children's participation, space for children, children's mobility and assessment tools. Inspired by the "European Year for combating poverty and social exclusion" it will however widen its scope to include another theme: child poverty. Doing so, the conference will more and more cover the whole Convention of the Rights of the Child.
