Trees only move in the wind. A study of unaccompanied Afghan children in Europe

The report summarizes the study on the situation of unaccompanied Afghan children in Europe. It was commissioned by UNHCR and conducted in 2010.
The analysis is based on a review of 198 cases. This is a relatively small number in relation to the total number of young Afghans who have made their way to Europe in recent years, and some of the information they provided could not be verified. Nevertheless the report presents in a comprehensive manner situation of minor Afghans, who constitute one of the largest groups of unaccompanied children who are currently making their way to Europe.
The report provides a brief introduction to the current situation in Afghanistan and neighbouring refugee-hosting countries, analysis of the proļ¬le of the recent arrivals and the way they are treated, both during their journey and once they are in Europe. In the last chapter a conclusion and a set of recommendations relevant to Europe as well as other locations where unaccompanied Afghan children are to be found are presented.
